Three Take Home All the Money at the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau Greed Event

3From a field of sixty seven, the Asian Poker Tour’s second ever Greed event ended with three players taking home the entire prize pool.

Bryan Huang, Mikal Blomlie, and David Jung ended more than five hours of play by agreeing to split the HK $149,477 total prize pool. The final table of the Greed event, which was the third side event at the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau, was hard fought and included Asian Poker Tour CEO Chris Parker.

The trophy and slightly bigger share of the prize pool went to Huang who hails from Singapore, who plans to play in other side events during the twelve-day festival of poker. He was very enthusiastic about the Asian Poker Tour’s innovative event, saying: “It’s very interesting because people never know the money round. You keep thinking if you should make the deal now or wait until another player busts out.” He added that it was great to add another poker trophy to his collection, especially with such a quality field of players.

Sharing the prize pool with Huang were Mikal Blomlie and David Jung. Blomlie, a semi-pro poker player out of Norway, found the Greed format interesting but a bit strange: “I’m used to playing deep stack tournaments so I found this tournament strange at the start. I definitely enjoyed it, though. I’m looking forward to playing more of the Asian Poker Tour’s side events here in Macau.”

Jung, on the other hand, is no stranger to poker in Macau. The 34-year-old Korean player is the Asia Regional Director for PokerStars. Playing in his first offline tournament, he mentioned that the event’s unique format was what kept him interested. “It’s definitely interesting. The concept separates the casual poker players from the real competitors. I also wanted to play in this event on the eve of our APPT tournament to show support for the growth of poker in Asia and to establish Macau as an important stop on the global poker calendar. Poker is a great competitive sport, and the Asian Poker Tour and the Asia Pacific Poker Tour are out to show that Asia is an important part of the game’s development.”

All in all, Huang walked away with HK $49,877 and the trophy, while Blomlie and Jung won HK $49,800, an excellent return on a HK $2,500+200 buy-in!  Greed is the third side event at the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau, which is a twelve-day festival of poker held at the StarWorld Hotel and Casino from August 12-23, 2009.
